Expectations

Although you may be apprehensive about your first visit to a GyneShape surgeon, there is no need to worry. The staff will begin by gathering information from you regarding your medical history. When ready, your surgeon will take your history and answer all of your questions. Following this, your physical evaluation begins.

Your Evaluation Includes:

  • A POPQ examination. This is the standard of care used by Urogynecologists to assess your pelvis for any signs of significant hernias. This is not painful. It is similar to the examination performed when you get a pap smear. However, during this exam you will be asked to bare down.
  • Photo Documentation and Morphing: We will utilize a special camera to take photographs of the areas that concern you. Our surgeons will then review these photos with you. During this review, our surgeons may use special software to morph (change) your photos in order to demonstrate your desired surgical goal. Our surgeons will then use these pictures as guides for the surgery. Be assured that these photos never leave the privacy of your chart and are protected by encryption software.

Those patients who have significant pelvic organ prolapse and desire corrective surgery for such, may undergo urodynamic testing, EMG, pudendal nerve testing, and/or cystoscopy based upon the prolapse identified and associated symptoms. This is of tantamount importance. Always remember that we are pelvic surgeons and will not perform a vaginal rejuvenation when such a procedure is not appropriate nor will we ignore other significant disorders.

Following your evaluation, your GyneShape surgeon will review your anatomy and symptoms and describe your surgical options in detail.
